SRINAGAR: Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Agricultural Production and Farmer Welfare Department (AP&FWD), Atal Dulloo, today chaired the first Agriculture Sector meeting to review the progress of various programs centrally sponsored and other flagship programs implemented in the division.

“Our primary concern should be to improve farmers’ incomes, to uplift them as a socially and economically self-sufficient community,” ACS said while asking officers to explore and use all possible resources to complete the income of farming families.

Saying that the current season is the season of Kharief, ACS insisted that officers work in coordination with the district administration, especially with the irrigation department, so that issues and concerns farmers on this subject can be resolved as a matter of priority.

Dulloo urged the department to ensure the effective implementation of all centrally sponsored programs to raise the incomes of 7.5 lakh small and marginal farming families. In this regard, he also stressed the importance of timely and judicious use of funds.

The ACS has asked officers to identify projects under various centrally sponsored programs so that they can be deliberated for the necessary approval and therefore implementation in the wider interest of the farming community. .

Dulloo stressed the importance of synergy between the University of Agriculture and the department saying that research must be in tune with the aspirations of farmers. He said the projects identified for GI labeling must be completed within a limited time frame.

During the meeting, the Director of Agriculture, Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the successful implementation of various central sponsored programs across the division. He also highlighted the status of the various flagship programs, major achievements and initiatives of the department.

Previously, ACS visited various agricultural projects and facilities, including a floriculture farm, a medicinal and aromatic section, an integrated mushroom development center, a vegetable garden (Hi Tech Poly houses), a quality control laboratory and a market. of organic vegetables in the premises of the agricultural complex of Lalmandi.

Later, Atal Dulloo visited Bangund, Wanpora Organic Vegetable Clusters in Pulwama district and interacted with organic vegetable growers.
