SRINAGAR: Kashmiri Director of Agriculture Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today opened a workshop on hydroponics here.
The workshop was organized by the Kashmir Ministry of Agriculture and sponsored by the 34th Assam Rifles Wusan Gund Ganderbal Battalion.
Speaking on this occasion, the Director stressed the importance of hydroponics in the current agricultural scenario.
During his interaction with the farmers, the manager highlighted different centrally funded programs including Kisan Credit Card Program, Prime Minister Kisan SAMAN NIDHI, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Seenchaye Yojana, Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana, etc. . He urged farmers to adopt beekeeping, mushroom cultivation and other activities for their socio-economic transformation.
Iqbal asked the officers / managers of the Department to work in close coordination with the PRI at different levels to ensure that the flagship programs and programs managed by the Department reach the local level.
He reiterated the importance of brainstorming sessions between different stakeholders including farmers, PRI, department, etc. for a complete and efficient implementation of the various programs for a desirable result.
The manager visited a recently established hydroponic unit in the area and had an interactive session with farmers on different aspects of hydroponics.
Later, the manager also inspected a stand at the tourist destination Sonmarg set up to showcase and promote sweet corn and different types of vegetables grown in the region.
Lt. Col. Agni Pradhan, Deputy Director of Planning Mohammad Younis Chowdhary, Director General of Agriculture Ganderbal and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
