Punjab to fill 359 vacancies in Department of Agriculture

Chandigarh, Aug 26 (IANS): The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Friday gave approval to fill 359 vacancies, through direct recruitment, in various cadres on the technical side of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.

A spokesman for the chief minister’s office said there was a severe shortage of officers and staff in the department, which has hampered its functioning.

These positions, including 200 agricultural development officers, 150 agricultural sub-inspectors and nine laboratory assistants, will be filled without any restructuring.

Filling these positions will help the department to implement the programs smoothly and provide the facilities to the farmers without hassle.

The Cabinet has also given the go-ahead to fill 80 Civil Judge (Junior Division)-Judicial Magistrate positions through the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.

This decision will contribute to accelerating the process of recruiting new judicial officers to ensure a rapid exemption from work at the level of the lower courts.

Meanwhile, in a bid to provide efficient animal health services in the 582 veterinary hospitals, the Cabinet has given ex post facto approval for the continuation of the services of the service providers, 497 veterinary pharmacists and 498 class IV sewaks or safai, already working on a one-year provisional contract from April 1st.
