The Punjab CM Department of Agriculture will take preventive measures to check the damage due to pinkworm attack in cotton belt

CHANDIGAR: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today ordered the Ministry of Agriculture to take the necessary preventive measures to control the spread of pinkworm in the cotton belt of the state.

The Prime Minister, while learning of reports of pink worm attacks in some areas, instructed the Department of Agriculture to permanently station its teams in the cotton belt to ensure the attack was stemmed at the stadium initial. He said the need for an hour is to ensure that the pink worm attack does not spread to cotton growing areas where nothing would be left to chance. Bhagwant Mann said the Department of Agriculture has an obligation to ensure that no loss is suffered by the farmers for whom the attack must be averted by all means. The Chief Minister said the Agriculture Department teams must undertake a thorough visit to the Malwa region and assess the magnanimity of the attack and then take the necessary course of action. He said the teams must consult with the farmers and take the necessary measures. Bhagwant Mann said that any kind of laxity will not be tolerated at any cost.

The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of farmers. He said the Punjab government is committed to pulling farmers out of any crisis. Bhagwant Mann assured the farmers that all necessary measures would be taken to safeguard their interests.
