Kashmir Department of Agriculture commemorates Women Farmers Day

On the eve of International Women’s Day, Kashmir’s Agriculture Production and Farmers’ Welfare Department today held a ceremony to commemorate Women Farmers/Entrepreneurs Day at Lalmandi Agricultural Complex here.

Kashmir’s Director of Agriculture, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, after inaugurating the function, stressed the importance of this year’s theme for the day (Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Future). He said the main purpose of marking the day is to celebrate and recognize the crucial and inevitable role that women play in ensuring the sustainability of the agricultural sector.

Iqbal has enlisted a number of women-centered initiatives by the department. He said that women constitute up to 60% of field workers, organizers and field managers in the agricultural sector and we are seeing an encouraging trend that educated women are also participating in urban agriculture.

The Director also held an interactive session with women farmers/entrepreneurs, women executives/civil servants of the department.

He instructed relevant officers to organize special training programs based on agricultural skills for women farmers, women entrepreneurs, self-help women’s groups so that they can contribute and excel in special branches and allied wings. of farming.

The program was attended by Agriculture Manager Kulgam, Kashmir Agrostologist, Potato Development Officer, Seed Analyst, Srinagar District Agriculture Officer, other agents and civil servants in addition to a number of women farmers/entrepreneurs.
