KUPWARA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din today initiated the cultivation of spring vegetables under controlled conditions (greenhouse cultivation) at the agricultural farm here.
Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad, SDAO Trehgam, concerned officers, moreover, a large number of progressive farmers were present on the occasion.
Addressing the farmers, the Deputy Commissioner urged them to engage in agricultural entrepreneurship, especially the commercial cultivation of vegetables, to increase their income. He said Kupwara district has huge potential for growing vegetables which needs to be tapped by farmers to improve their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner distributed 9 poly greenhouses among progressive farmers in Trehgam Agricultural Subdivision as part of the vegetable expansion program for which the farmers expressed their gratitude for the department’s positive move.
Director of Agriculture (CAO) Kupwara Nazir Ahmad also spoke and said the agriculture department aims to distribute 100 poly greenhouses under different programs including intensive vegetable cultivation, expansion of vegetables, the PMDP, the MIDH and the CAPEX program.
