Hyderabad, August 27 (NSS): Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has called on the farming community to come together and fight united against the Modi government in the Center which has neglected the agricultural sector since it came to power.
The Chief Minister held a meeting with the leaders of National Farmers Unions from 26 states on the current situation of the agricultural sector in the country, at Pragathi Bhavan here on Saturday. He also discussed the measures taken by the government of Telangana in the development of irrigation, agriculture and energy sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, KCR lamented that even though the country had achieved 75 years of independence, farmers were still struggling to continue in the profession and the agricultural sector was continually neglected by successive governments at the Centre.
He alleged that the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed to meet the aspirations of the country’s farmers and called on the Center to review its lopsided policies against the agricultural sector.
“If all was well, why farmers have launched protests across the country and why Narendra Modi has apologized to farmers,” KCR asked.
The Chief Minister also asked the leaders of farmers’ unions to reflect on why the problems of farmers are neglected and why the Center is not taking any initiative to solve the problems of the agricultural sector.
He said the country has abundant water resources and there is an availability of 70,000 tcf of water, of which 10,000 tcf for drinking water and 40,000 tcf for irrigation will be enough to meet the demand. request. However, due to lack of policies and inefficient government at the Center, the country still faces water scarcity for drinking and irrigation needs, KCR said.
Around 100 farmers’ union leaders attended the meeting. The Prime Minister also had lunch with the leaders of national farmers’ associations.
Farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab, Jharkhand and other states had visited Mallanna Sagar project in Siddipet as part of their three-day study tour days on the Kaleshwaram project and agricultural reforms in Telangana.
Chairman of Rythu Bandhu Samithi, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, had informed that the largest lift irrigation project in the world was completed in 3.5 years.
On this occasion, the farmers hailed the commitment of the government of Telangana to build a project at 557 meters above sea level and to facilitate an adequate supply of water for the farming community and clean water for households. (NSS)
