LAHORE: A six-member delegation from Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) led by Central President Khalid Mehmood Khokhar on Tuesday met Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal at the Civil Secretariat and briefed him on farmers’ issues.
The meeting discussed in detail the support price for wheat and sugarcane, the Sugar Cane (development) transfer fund and measures to improve agriculture.
Addressing the delegation, the chief secretary said the government was taking measures for the advancement of the agricultural sector and would continue to protect the rights of farmers. He said that it is the responsibility of the district administration to achieve the actual objectives of the Sugar Cane (Development) Cession Fund and ensure transparent use of funds for repair and construction. roads. He asked all deputy commissioners to hold regular meetings of the committees set up for the sugarcane (development) fund.
Khalid Khokhar said the prime minister is personally interested in improving the country’s agricultural sector. The price of fertilizers has dropped significantly thanks to the effective measures of the Punjab government, he said. “The government should ensure a wide availability of urea-based fertilizer to farmers at the rate of Rs 1,768 per bag.” Delegates included Rabia Sultan, Javed Abdullah, Hassan Akram, Bilal Israel Khan and Saeed Jaffar Dogar.
